Beijing: China voiced concern over the “escalation” of violence and “rising temperatures” in Kashmir after the Uri terror attack and called on India and Pakistan to resolve their differences through dialogue and enhance counter-terrorism cooperation. Expressing shock over recent terror attack on an army camp in Uri, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said, “We want to express our deep sympathies and condolences to the affected families and the injured”.

“We have noted relevant reports. We are shocked by this attack,” Lu told media briefing when asked about India’s allegation that Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Muhammad’s involvement in the attack. “China opposes and strongly condemns all forms of terrorism. We are concerned about this escalation and rising temperatures surrounding Kashmir situation,” he said.

The Australian government has agreed a $29.6m (£22m) settlement with the owners of a Chinese coal carrier that caused significant damage to the Great Barrier Reef more than six years ago. The Shen Neng 1 hit a shoal in April 2010, leaking tonnes of heavy fuel oil. Conservationists have described the settlement, which is less than a third of the full clean-up cost of $105m (£80m), as “woefully inadequate”. The clean-up operation will begin mid next year. The 230m (750 ft.) ship had ground against a coral shoal for more than a kilometre, turning coral into dust. Shenzhen Energy Transport, the firm behind the carrier, refused to accept responsibility for the damage for six years. They argued the reef was self-healing and the company should not have to pay the bill.

Airlander 10 sustains damage but no one injured on landing in fields during second test flight at Cardington airfield. The world’s largest aircraft, a part-plane, part-airship hybrid being developed in the UK, has crashed during its second test flight. The 92-metre-long (302ft) Airlander 10 was damaged during the flight from RAF Cardington airfield, Bedfordshire. Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV), which is developing the Airlander 10, denied reports it had crashed into a telegraph pole in nearby fields. The company tweeted: “Airlander sustained damage on landing during today’s flight. No damage was sustained mid-air or as a result of a telegraph pole as reported. “We’re debriefing following the second test flight this morning. All crew are safe and well and there are no injuries”.

The study, by Strategy Analytics, said 14.2 million copies of the phone shipped between April to June, accounting for 4% of the market. By contrast, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge shipped 8.3 million units over the same period. However, both fell short of the earlier iPhone 6, which shipped 26.3 million units over the same months in 2015. “Smartphone growth is sluggish at the moment due to ongoing economic volatility worldwide, high ownership penetration in most major countries, and a lack of new innovation from device manufacturers,” commented the market research firm’s director Linda Sui.
